Ryanair Pilots Reject Bonus Offer, Seek New Contracts Instead

Boss Micheal O'Leary revealed at the company's AGM today that they were handing pilots at some of its largest bases a €10,000 annual pay rise on top of the €12,000 bonus offered this week to those who help the airline alleviate a pilot shortage.

Ryanair is hiring 125 pilots to avoid additional flight cancellations and could force 500 existing pilots to change holiday plans. The Guardian newspaper also reported that Ryanair pilots are trying organize a protest under which they would refuse to do any work beyond what is required by their contracts, which would cause more scheduling headaches for the airline.

The Italian antitrust authority on Wednesday opened a probe into Ryanair for alleged improper commercial practices over the Irish low-priced airline's mass cancellation of flights, including over 700 in Italy. And so the announcement on September 15th that it is cancelling over 2,000 flights between now and the end of October-around 2% of its capacity over the period-is more serious than it may at first seem.

The letter said: "The pilot market is changing, and Ryanair will need to change the ways which the pilots and management work together to ensure a stable and common future for everyone".

Ryanair said Thursday it expects to have re-accommodated or refunded more than 95 percent of customers by the end of this week.

Across Europe, I'm told, staff reps from more than 30 bases are talking on Whatsapp, co-ordinating a plan to get a better deal from their employer.

Last night's champions League games were nothing but a joy to our eyes as football reached it's peak with a very strong games. Burnley opened the season with a shock win at Chelsea , and following that, they lost to West Brom at home.

He also said there have been no demands for new contracts. One used the word "revolt".

Alex Neill, managing director of home products and services, said: "It's outrageous that Ryanair passengers who have had already to endure huge inconvenience are essentially being double charged for booking seating and luggage".

Contractor pilots will be paid at their current applicable agency rates.

Separately, some Ryanair pilots have spoken to the BBC about a "toxic" atmosphere and how they felt "undervalued".

All 315,000 affected customers were emailed by Ryanair on Monday to advise them of flight changes, alternative flights, refunds and European Union flight compensation law.
