Netanyahu, Egypt's Sisi to hold first public meeting in NYC

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi met on Monday night in NY ahead of the UN General Assembly.

In his address to the United Nations on Tuesday, El-Sisi urged Palestinians to unite and "be ready to coexist" in peace with Israelis.

Monday's meeting followed a rare phone conversation earlier in the day between Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas of Fatah and Hamas chief Ismail Haniya following Egyptian-mediated reconciliation talks. Pictures of the meeting showed the two men seemingly conversing well with each other.

"We can repeat this experience and this excellent step once again - the peace and security of the Israeli citizens together with the peace and security of the Palestinian citizens", Sisi said.

"Peace between the Palestinians and Israel would be a fantastic achievement, and we are giving it an absolute go".

Trump has described peace between Israelis and Palestinians as "the ultimate deal".

One other civilian was also injured. "One BSF trooper has been killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan rangers". On August 30, Pakistan violated ceasefire agreement and fired unprovoked in Nowshera sector.

There were reports Mr Netanyahu and his team were dismayed that Mr Trump emphasised the issue during the meeting. "And I can tell you that the Trump administration would like to see it", Mr Trump added at the start of the meeting.

"We as Egyptian government are responsible for securing Egyptians that did not have the ability to sleep that night without retaliating against what happened", he concluded.

According to sources in the meeting who spoke to Ha'arez, the Egyptian president expressed optimism about the Trump administration's efforts to renew the "peace process", and reassured US Jews that Egypt was interested in helping.

Egyptian state press said the NY meetings would further reconciliation.

Israeli Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi welcomed Netanyahu's meeting with Sisi.

"Sisi stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to efforts to resume negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides with a view to reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the two-state solution and the relevant worldwide references", Al Masry Al Youm newspaper said.
