A clear picture is expected to emerge on Sunday (September 3) when the reshuffle is expected to take place.

The rejig will reportedly happen before Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves to China to attend the BRICS summit. This cabinet reshuffle could be an occasion for Modi to give a message to the nation that he cares for performance and merit.

"A process has been set in motion for the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan at around 10 am on Sunday", a top government official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Performing ministers like Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Manoj Sinha and Jitendra Singh - all Ministers of State with independent charge - are likely to be elevated to Cabinet rank.

While there are some vacancies, a number of senior ministers are also holding dual portfolios. He is now minister for medium and small enterprises.
