Rory McIlroy, caddie JP Fitzgerald reportedly part ways

Rory McIlroy, caddie JP Fitzgerald reportedly part ways

"He has taken me from 200 in the world to major champion", McIlroy said.

Reuters also reported that McIlroy will have a new caddie on his bag at the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational this week after ending his nine-year relationship with his fellow Irishman.

The surprise decision leaves the 28-year-old needing a new caddie for the Bridgestone Invitational, which starts on Thursday in OH, and the US PGA at Quail Hollow next week. "He said, 'You're Rory McIlroy, what are you doing", Rory said of the now infamous exchange during a press conference after his first round. How quickly have those words uttered by JP Fitzgerald less than two weeks ago at Royal Birkdale taken on a totally different meaning.

"JP, he reminded me who I was, basically". Spieth has won three majors since McIlroy last tasted success, and reports today suggest that the Irishman has made a major change. "You've got to be positive and he did a great job".

Over the years, McIlroy was a staunch defender of Fitzgerald when he came in for criticism. McIlroy ultimately finished in a tie for fourth.

Paul Manafort subpoenaed by Senate Judiciary Committee
Manafort to testify on enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act and Russia's attempts to influence USA elections. The president also has denied knowing about the meeting until recently.

Forbes estimated that Fitzgerald earned £1.25million from his cut of McIlroy's prize money over the 12 months to June this year.

Who will be Fitzgerald's replacement?

The news has been broked by Reuters who claim to have an inside source.

McIlroy and Diamond have been friends since childhood and grew up together in Holywood, Northern Ireland.

The news marks the second big player-caddie split following the decision of Phil Mickelson and Jim "Bones" Mackay to call it quits after 25 years together. When the then 16-year-old prodigy was invited to play in the Irish Open in 2005, it was Diamond who was on his bag.
