The freakish case came to light after one of the suspects walked to a police station on Friday, August 18 and said he was "tired of eating human flesh".

SAPS Colonel Thembeka Mbhele told News24 that the three were arrested on Friday night after one suspect walked into the police station and revealed his crimes.

"The three suspects are alleged to have murdered a woman and then cut her body up", police spokeswoman Captain Charmaine Struwig said, the report said.

Nino Mbatha, 32, Sthembiso Sithole, 31, Lindokuhle Masondo, 32, and Lungisani Magubane, 30, appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate's Court on Monday morning on charges of murder and conspiracy.

The three men face rape, murder and charges relating to possession of human tissue.

After that, hundreds of residents allegedly confess to having eaten human body parts procured from one of the accused.

We know that five people have been arrested.

Mthembeni Majola, a local ward councilor who organized the meeting, reportedly told news outlets of the confessions.

Some residents even confessed to personally digging up graves at Mbatha's direction before giving him the recovered remains.

One of the men arrested was a traditional healer, and had told members of the community that if they dug up graves they would become strong, and if they brought him human bones, they would become rich, Majola said.

"It was buried under big rocks and we had to call a TLB machine to remove the rocks".

'Allegations are that some consumed some of her flesh while some of her body parts were shared with the fourth suspect in Amangwe.

The man led detectives to a house in Rensburgdrift, where they were confronted with more remains.

Cllr Majola insists there is more than one victim, as the body parts were from different sexes.
