Transport police report casualties in London

One, Holly Jones, told the BBC a white van veered off the road and struck as many as six people.

Witnesses reported seeing two men shot by police.

The police department said there also was a stabbing at another location, the Vauxhall district southwest of London Bridge, but it was unrelated to the first two attacks.

Some witnesses reported seeing as many as three attackers, a figure not confirmed by police.

British Transport Police said casualties were reported after an incident that may have involved a van and a knife attack, the BBC said, while the London Ambulance Service said it was sending multiple resources to the incident. Armed officers responded and shots were fired.

Armed police placed London Bridge on lockdown after the white van careered into crowds, while officers raced to the scene of the stabbings outside a pub in Borough Market.

Metropolitan Police tweeted the London Bridge and Borough Market incidents were declared terrorist incidents. It was later determined that the Vauxhall incident was a stabbing that was not connected to the other two.

Prime Minister Theresa May has been briefed on the incident and will hold an emergency meeting with members of the government on Sunday.

"We are dealing with an incident on #LondonBridge, when we have more information we will update this twitter feed".

He also tweeted, "Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the U".

London Bridge, which crosses the River Thames in London, was closed in both directions.

Roberts said he heard what sounded like gunshots about 10 minutes later.

The Met urged people in the three affected areas to run, hide and call thepolice.
