Tillerson urges negotiation to end Gulf crisis but Saudis say no

The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain have accused Qatar of funding extremism and have cut ties with the Arab state.

Before the meeting with the Kuwaiti official, Tillerson told reporters, "We hope all the parties will continue to talk to one another in good faith".

Tillerson this week hosted a top Qatari government official and held a separate meeting with the Kuwaiti foreign minister, who is also visiting the US capital.

A rights group said migrants employed to work as farmers and domestic staff are stuck in Saudi Arabia after their Qatari bosses were ordered out of the kingdom amid a major regional crisis. He attended a dinner at the Kuwait Embassy and met al-Jubeir on Tuesday, before joining Tillerson on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Qatar said that its Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will be addressing the media tomorrow (June 29) at the JW Marriott Washington DC on this issue.

They include: shutting down Qatar's multinational news network, Al Jazeera; cutting back ties with Iran; ending support for the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, and other Islamist groups; and closing a Turkish military base.

Saudi Arabia's ongoing war in Yemen has been ramped up with the purchase of new USA weapons, and now, seeking to deflect attention from increasing evidence that members of the Saudi royal family have supported terrorist actions on U.S. soil in the past, Riyadh has demanded that tiny Doha end its diplomatic alliance with Iran. "But if they don't, they will remain isolated", al-Jubeir said.

Macron's Party Wins Big
Unlike Macron, however, they came from long-established political parties with developed electoral apparatuses. The Socialist Party and its allies are projected to win 20 to 30 seats.

Qatar has rejected the demands and accusations, saying that they are based on unproven claims.

The demands included the closure of all news outlets that Qatar allegedly funds, directly and indirectly, including Arabi21, Rassd, Al Araby Al Jadeed, Mekameleen and Middle East Eye.

Yet as the demands by Qatar's neighbors grew in scope - far surpassing the original focus on terror financing - the White House sought to distance itself from the crisis.

The UAE's ambassador Omar Ghobash to Russian Federation has said on Wednesday that Qatar could face fresh sanctions if it does not comply with the demands.

The public divisions in Washington over the United States stance toward the Gulf dispute highlight the reckless, incoherent and crisis-ridden character of American foreign policy in the Middle East and internationally. Much has been made of the distance between President Trump's enthusiastic support for the Saudi position and Tillerson's preference for a speedy negotiated end to the embargo.

On June 23, a list carrying 13 demands prepared by Arab countries, who severed diplomatic and economic relations with Qatar on allegedly supporting terrorism, had been handed over to Doha. Commenting on the list of demands, Tillerson on Sunday said some of the demands "will be very hard for Qatar to meet".
