Likelihood high tropical system will develop in Gulf of Mexico

There's a 60% chance of the storm being named in the next 5 days.

Satellite data and surface observations indicated that a broad low-pressure area had formed over the Gulf of Honduras, and the associated precipitation activity was showing signs of organization.

Over the next 48 hours, the system has a 20 percent chance of developing in to a tropical cyclone and a 70 percent chance of becoming a cyclone over the next five days.

A chance for storms will stay with us for much of the week, as we watch the Gulf of Mexico for tropical development.

The hurricane center said the system will continue to bring the potential for heavy rain to parts of Central America, the Yucatan Peninsula, western Cuba and the Cayman Islands.
