Indian PM Modi Visits Portugal on Trip to Meet with Trump

The Prime Minister said that apart from his official meetings with Trump and his Cabinet colleagues, he will meet some prominent American CEOs and the large Indian diaspora.

During his meet with Trump, Modi will explain how the H-1B visa programme has benefited both countries.

Noting that India is the indispensable country for addressing climate change, Asia Society Policy Institute Director of Asian Sustainability Jackson Ewing said India embodies the core climate debate about how much emerging economies should rely on fossil fuels for their development needs.

Between 2014 and 2016, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi cultivated a strong personal relationship with United States president Barack Obama.

New Delhi has been alarmed by Trump's courting of Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he hosted at his Mar-a-Lago winter estate in April, officials in India said.

He also posted a statement on Facebook saying that Trump had invited Modi for the visit.

They share a populist streak and a knack for using social media, and are likely to find common ground on combating Islamic extremism.
