Hundreds of households to be evacuated in wake of London tower fire

Colin Beattie, Musselburgh MSP, wrote to East Lothian Council this week to seek confirmation that the cladding used on the tower was not used on any buildings in the county.

The identities of the three men and one woman are not being revealed "on request of the families", Scotland Yard said. Expedited inspections heightened concerns about exterior insulation panels like the ones on Grenfell Tower, a high-rise where a June 14 fire killed at least 79 people.

Manslaughter charges could be filed over the fatal London high-rise inferno that left 79 people presumed dead, British police said Friday.

The cladding on the outside of the Grenfell Tower, as well as the insulation used in the tower block both, failed safety checks, the Metropolitan Police said, nine days after the blaze ripped through the building within minutes.

"Under these circumstances, we are unable to speculate on further details at this time".

The company manufactured 64,000 Hotpoint refrigerators between 2006 and 2009 with the model numbers FF175BP and FF175BG-the former of these two was the model make of the Whirlpool refrigerator that blew up.

Fiona McCormack says authorities are "looking at every health and safety and fire safety offense and we are reviewing every company at the moment involved in the building and refurbishment of Grenfell Tower".

The NHS is reported to be among organisations checking their buildings are safe.

In a statement on Friday evening Ms Gould said firefighters and council officials had inspected the estate on Friday and said the buildings should be emptied.

As police continued to unpick the roots of the disaster, Ms McCormack said a string of criminal offences were now being considered.

She said: "We are looking at every criminal offence from manslaughter onwards". We stand ready to fully support any national investigation into materials, building standards and safety regulations.

"Such is the devastation inside, our forensic search and recovery may not be complete by the end of the year", McCormack said.

A Hotpoint FF175BP model was found to have been the fridge-freezer at the centre of the tragedy and followed witness reports from June 14 that one resident claimed his appliance was responsible.

A spokesman for the firm said: "In view of the focus on rainscreen cladding systems and the insulation forming part of them, Celotex believes that the right thing to do is to stop the supply of Celotex RS5000 for rainscreen cladding systems in buildings over 18 metres tall with immediate effect, including in respect of ongoing projects, pending further clarity".
