Trump Highlights Rosie O'Donnell's Support for Firing Comey

The anger behind Donald Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday had been building for months, but a turning point came when Comey refused to preview for top Trump aides his planned testimony to a Senate panel, White House officials said.

In the wake of the firing of FBI Director James Comey, Democrats are now publicly discussing the possible impeachment of President Donald Trump, McClatchy reported.

Outraged Democrats called for an independent investigation into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russia's election interference, and a handful of prominent Republican senators left open that possibility. But NBC's sources added that few were ready to celebrate Trump's visit after he sacked their boss.

They suggested the president was persuaded to act by Justice Department officials and a memo from Mr Rosenstein.

Noting that Comey - not McCabe - was originally set to testify at today's hearing, Warner said, "Trump's actions this week cost us an opportunity to get at the truth, at least for today".

"I still don't have any love for Comey", said Cody Davis, 29, among a small group of protesters near Chicago's 96-story Trump International Hotel and Tower. Comey told Congress this year that the FBI's investigation into the Russian disruption included a probe of "the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia".

These are just a handful of vulnerable members who will be among the most critical lawmakers to watch in the coming days for how they react to the still-unfolding saga around Comey's firing.

McCabe, who was Comey's deputy, is expected to be replaced by a candidate now being vetted by the head of the Justice Department, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and other White House appointees.

"We should maybe have an impeachment clock", Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., said.

But it quickly became clear that the president had been stewing for days over the Russian Federation investigation and Comey's refusal to defend him in appearances before lawmakers.

"As you know, Senator, the work of the men and women of the FBI continues despite any changes in circumstance, any decisions, so there has been no effort to impede our investigation to date", McCabe said. By Wednesday afternoon, the officials, like Trump, were saying he had in fact been considering ousting the Federal Bureau of Investigation director for months because of a lack of confidence in his ability to lead the agency.

White House officials and others insisted on anonymity in order to disclose private conversations and internal deliberations. I can tell you that I hold Director Comey in the absolute highest regard.

Trump shrugged off the political firestorm he created with Comey's dismissal as he met with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in the Oval Office on Wednesday. The senators said later that the Russian Federation investigations were discussed but Comey's firing was not.

The signatories of the letter are from California, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont and Washington.
