'Roseanne' revival in the works

Multiple networks are bidding for the new version of the nineties' classic, including the show's original network ABC. It was praised for its realistic portrayal of the average American family, the Conners, an IL working-class family. Barr is executive producing the revival with original series producers Tom Werner and Bruce Helford, with Gilbert and Whitney Cummings also attached as executive producers.

The series ran from 1988 to 1997 and was the most-watched show of the 1989 - 1990 season.

It is unclear when the eight-episode series will go into production, but it is now being shopped to several networks and streaming service Netflix.

Original-cast revivals have been in vogue at Fox, too, with Prison Break returning this month and a recent order for a second edition of the network's revival of The X-Files. But ABC, where the show originally aired, looks to be interested as well. Goodman, on the Gilbert hosted and produced "The Talk", seemed more than enthusiastic at the prospect of bringing the Conners together once again. Yet Goodman will be on the new cast, so we'll see how they handle that. "The big 'R" and I did a pilot about five years ago that didn't go anywhere'.

There's no word yet on when the show might be ready for a premiere.
