Anne Hathaway threw son rainbow-themed birthday party

Hathaway's greatest sin is being perceived as "actress-y", meaning that she's the sort of ambitious theater kid who likely practiced her Oscar speech in the mirror at age 8 and then went on to make good on that dream. However, when a monster begins a rampage through Seoul, Gloria begins to believe that the monster's life is connected to hers.

Let's just say that there is a connection between the monster; a subsequent giant robot; and Gloria, Oscar, and a local sandbox. It did mine, for a while, until it didn't.

Anne Hathaway says she regrets sharing a picture of her son on social media as in doing so she invited people into her personal life. But the film ruminates on this idea and expands it beyond Gloria, showing how actions have consequences for not only her but those around her as well. I don't know, Hathaway kind of rubbed me the wrong way during that time.

On the other hand, she acknowledged that she did take some of the haters' criticism as constructive: "If anything that anybody said resonated with me as something I'd like to work on for myself, I took it in like that". If you've got time to listen, I could teach a class on the flawless way she shut down a sexist Matt Lauer in 2012, and I haven't even gotten to Hathaway's delivery of the line "Oops" in The Dark Knight Rises, or the just-right Sunday-afternoon movie that is The Intern. Much of the issue lies in Oscar's characterization in the first half, as he's a nice, unassuming dude whom anyone would want to grab a beer with - typical fare for Sudeikis.

"How the world feels about me has nothing to do with me". Meanwhile, Hathaway said she was lucky that she said yes to the movie early and memorized her lines. In the end, Gloria alone can save Seoul from the kaiju, but not before she becomes her own saviour.

Thousands of evacuated Syrians stuck as transfer stalls
A resident of Zabadani - another rebel-held town to be evacuated - Amer Burhan says no evacuation had even taken place from there. According to the New York Times , the evacuations were the result of a deal brokered by the Syrian government.

Luckily Hatheway gets a capable co-star in Jason Sudeikis, who since leaving Saturday Night Live, has mostly made his name in bro-friendly studio comedies like Horrible Bosses and We're the Millers. It proves character pieces and monster movies can inhabit the same universe, offering one genre interesting insights into the other. Colossal's actors are excellent and Vigalondo is creative but the film would have been vastly better had it been less dreary in execution.

"It's amusing because with this movie, I've been asked to up my social media... thing".

For my daughter's first birthday, I attempted to make the Very Hungry Caterpillar cupcakes that are all over Pinterest. Colossal isn't just a movie about a woman overcoming her bad habits.

Colossal opens in limited release on Friday, April 7 and will expand in the coming weeks.

When Anne Hathaway stood up before the United Nations to talk about parental leave, we were totally impressed.
