Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar elected Mumbai Mayor with BJP support

Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar was elected as the Mayor of the Bombay Municipal Corporation by the newly elected members of the ruling BJP-Sena combine.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) extended its support to Mahadeshwar paving way for the Shiv Sena Mayor to sail through easily.

While both parties managed to include more corporators into their fold since then, they fell short of the magical figure of 114 seats, which is required to win a clear majority and elect a Mayor.

Earlier, prior to the civic elections in Mumbai, Shiv Sena had parted ways with BJP and had chose to fight the elections separately.

Away from Mumbai, the BJP swept Maharashtra, with victories in Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Solapur, Ulhasnagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Nashik. Mayor Shenal Ambekar had given each candidate 15 minutes to withdraw their nominations, but the two candidates not withdraw their nominations.

New England Patriots want two first-rounders for Jimmy Garoppolo
If two first-round picks is the right price, it's highly unlikely that the Patriots will end up sending Garoppolo packing. Now add in the fact that Garoppolo has two career starts under his belt, and this is magnified even further.

In the elections held last month, the Shiv Sena won 84 of the 227 seats, while the BJP finished a close second with 82. All 82 BJP corporators raised their hands in support of the Sena nominees.

In the corporation hall, the sloganeering war started soon after the election process began.

"BJP will also not contest elections for the post of Deputy Mayor and for the standing, improvement, education committees as well as for posts of chairpersons in the BEST committee", the CM had said.

Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar elected BMC Mayor with 171 votes.

In the deputy mayor's election, Sena's Hemangi Worlikar defeated Congress' Winnie D'Souza by 166-31 votes, as five votes were declared invalid. Further, a Congress leader Dharmesh Vyas has alleged that Mahadeshwar has been drawing salary from a government-aided college even during the period when he was contesting election. But Mahadeshwar is facing legal trouble after a case has been filed in the court challenging his election.
