Rory McIlroy has plenty of work to do to win a second WGC Match Play title after losing 2&1 to Soren Kjeldsen in their opening group match in Austin, Texas. Jordan Spieth was woefully out of sorts in falling to the 38-year-old Japanese player Hideto Tanihara by 4&2. "I obviously have to take care of my end of the bargain tomorrow as well".
The Florida-based 31-year-old, who was controversially overlooked by Darren Clarke for a wildcard at Hazeltine last September, revealed his 2017 schedule for this side of the Atlantic as he prepared to be the sole Saltire bearer in this week's WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Texas. "I look forward to the process of trying to get in that team".
In a high-quality contest, four of the first five holes changed hands due to birdies before Kjeldsen edged ahead at the turn thanks to McIlroy's bogey on the ninth.
Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark birdied his last four holes to beat McIlroy in a wild opening match at Austin Country Club. Fourth seed Hideki Matsuyama halved his match with Jim Furyk.
Sergio Garcia made a very risky play in his match with Shane Lowry as he chose to use the driver from the fairway.
The Spaniard never led on the back nine and was 1 down going to the 18th.
After halving the first six holes a Tanihara birdie put him in front at the 7 and he made further gains at the 10 and 12 to go 3up. Thomas won the next two and then closed him out on the 17th.
'I screwed up,' Orly Airport attacker told father before assault
Belgacem later showed up at the bar and hijacked another auto at gunpoint before showing up at the airport, Molins said. Once there, a prosecutor said, Belgacem threw a bag containing a gas can at soldiers before hurling himself at them.
"It's really hard to even comprehend being on the golf course right now, because of what she has gone through", he said. "It has been very, very emotional as you can tell", added Day, whose father Alvin died of cancer in 1999 when the golfer was 11.
Jason Day is the defending champion, though McIlroy has been tough in this format.
"Being on the European Tour for 20 years and then suddenly changing it up, coming over here not knowing anybody and not knowing the courses has been hard, but it's what I wanted and I'm enjoying it". Charl Schwartzel had the shortest day, ending his match against Byeong Hun on the 13th hole.
Perez went 2 up early on Day, including a 30-foot birdie putt on No. 4 that swirled into the cup.
Day, last year's victor, walked off the course after six holes, revealing to reporters that he was leaving to be with his mother, who is having lung cancer surgery on Friday.
"They basically told her it was terminal and she had 12 months to live, so he brought her over here to be tested and have mutliple doctors looking at her", Martin said. The most important thing in his world right now is being with his mom Friday during that surgery.
