Trump Promises to Deal With North Korea 'Very Strongly'

The missile was propelled by a solid fuel engine and was an upgraded, extended-range version of its submarine-launched ballistic missile that was tested successfully in August past year, KCNA said.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis made his first overseas visit to South Korea and Japan earlier this month. According to footage released by North Korea's state-owned Korean Central News Agency, or KCNA, the missile was carried inside a canister mounted on a previously unknown tracked transporter erector launcher, or TEL.

An official in the USA mission to the UN said in a statement that the United States anticipated a meeting to take place some time on Monday afternoon, NY time (Tuesday morning AEDT). He added that China, one of the five permanent Security Council members, urges all sides to refrain from any provocative acts and believes dialogue is the path to a resolution.

Even after confronting the first major worldwide crisis of his presidency, President Donald Trump still found time to schmooze with high-paying guests at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Russia's Foreign Ministry also expressed concern Monday about the missile launch.

"North Korea must fully comply with the relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions". In a brief joint appearance after the news of the missile test, the two presented a united front.

The North Korean test was widely interpreted as a challenge to the Trump administration.

Oil's Sedate Market Poised for Data Shot on OPEC-Led Cuts
Most OPEC members are happy with a crude price of about $60 a barrel, Zanganeh said, according to the Tasnim news agency. Higher bond yields reduce the value of insurance companies' liabilities and increase net interest margins of banks.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the European Union, meanwhile, were swift to condemn the launch, saying it undermines the worldwide security.

Sunday's ballistic missile test appeared to show North Korea making progress on its eventual aim to possess a nuclear weapon.

The Pentagon is not overly anxious about this latest launch, but they are concerned about an intercontinental ballistic missile that could one day reach the U.S.

The Korean Central News Agency, the nation's main information arm, said Kim had directed the test of the surface-to-surface Pukguksong-2, or Polaris-2.

North Korea has been hinting at an intercontinental ballistic missile test since the beginning of the year, but this was no ICBM. He said that in his summit with Trump at the White House on Friday the president "assured me the United States will always stand with Japan 100 percent".

We considered other alternate interpretations of this test, such as a failed or partial ICBM test in which only the first stage was functional, but the trajectory is not a good match for the first stage of any of North Korea's known ICBM projects.

Pyongyang had test-fired Musudan missiles eight times between April 15 and October 20 in 2016.
