The Tommy Tuberville era at Cincinnati has reportedly come to an end.
The UC athletic department has not returned a message for comment.
Tuberville possesses a 159-99 record in 21 seasons as a college head coach. With the Tigers, Tuberville garnered an 85-40 mark, including an undefeated SEC championship season in 2004. He went 0-3 in bowl games, losing the 2013 Belk Bowl, the 2014 Military Bowl, and the 2015 Hawaii Bowl.
There was an open and growing feeling of frustration with Tuberville among Bearcats fans and alumni after the team finished the 2016 season with a 4-8 record and no shot at a postseason bowl for the first time since 2008. "I am not done coaching and I look forward to my next challenge". The Bearcats were considered to be among the frontrunners if the Big 12 expanded this season, but the league made a decision to stay at 10 teams, leaving Cincinnati as one of the top available programs outside of the power conferences.

Overall, Tuberville was 29-22 in four seasons as the Cincinnati head coach.
"He is a Hall of Fame coach", Cincinnati athletic director Mike Bohn said. "We thank him and his staff for their hard work and dedication to Cincinnati". Among the school's targets will be Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm, Troy coach Neal Brown and Appalachian State's Scott Satterfield.
"We will move onward and search for a head coach who can continue the growth of the football program in line with our goals of being class of the league".
