Pope prays for Venezuela, blesses poor in Colombia

Pope prays for Venezuela, blesses poor in Colombia

Speaking to reporters as he flew back to Rome after several days in Colombia, Francis said late Sunday that Trump's decision to end legal protections for people brought to the country illegally as children would split families, "the cradle of life".

The pontiff admitted that he was unclear on the legal specifics of DACA, but called on the president to "make changes" to protect the vulnerable.

Pope Francis on Monday questioned whether Donald Trump was "pro-life" following the US President's decision to end a policy allowing young immigrants to stay in the United States.

Francis told reporters that it was important for young people to have roots, referring to the program's previous rulings that deferred deportations for those who arrived to the USA before the age of sixteen.

Steve Bannon, who until recently was Trump's chief strategist, accused the bishops of having an ulterior motive in advocating for families affected by the decision to revoke DACA. Francis, known for his own simple and austere style, said Claver was "austere and charitable to the point of heroism".

Calling upon humankind to take a stand against the fossil fuel industry to curb global warming, McKibben likened the ongoing battle against oil and gas companies to "going on a war-like footing: not shooting at enemies, but focusing in the way that peoples and nations usually only focus when someone's shooting at them".

Francis has clashed previously with Trump over issues of immigration, saying that anyone who wants to build a wall as Trump does on the Mexican border to keep out migrants is "not Christian".

"I assure all of you of my prayers for each of the countries of Latin America, and in a special way for neighbouring Venezuela", Francis said during a prayer service in the city.

"Whoever denies it has to go to the scientists and ask them", he said.

Another journalist asked Francis why he thought it took "so long for governments to gain consciousness on this question, while in other areas, like on the question of arms, they can decide quickly?"

"They speak very clearly, the scientists are precise".

On the flight back to Rome from Cartagena on September 10, Pope Francis addressed two questions that are much discussed in the United States today: the situation of the 800,000 Dreamers whose could face deportation and the moral responsibility of governments that deny climate change.

"Man is a stupid and hard-headed being", he added. "I think what I see there is a fight for political interests".

But he also shows you how far the supposedly religious conservatives in this country have strayed: they brandish the Bible and claim to be legislating in the name of God, then they throw out the pope at the first sign of criticism from the church.
