Trump asserts support for McMaster

Amid a campaign against him from sections of the right wing media, president Trump on Friday re-affirmed his confidence in three star lieutenant general and national security adviser HR McMaster.

In a statement to CBS News on Friday, the president said, "General McMaster and I are working very well together".

U.S. President Donald Trump's doubts about the war in Afghanistan has led to a delay in completing a new U.S. strategy in South Asia, skepticism that included a suggestion that the U.S. military commander in the region be fired, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

"McMaster basically has this list and over the next two weeks he's going to phase out" more senior officials loyal to Trump, an unnamed source told the conservative Free Beacon.

That is according to Bloomberg View's Eli Lake, who first broke the story in early April that Rice, who served under President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017, tried to "unmask" Trump associates mentioned by foreign officials in conversations picked up as part of the US' intelligence-gathering operations. Trump wants to deal with the China issue, McMaster doesn't. "I was upset while I was there in seeing how empowered Obama holdovers under McMaster were to essentially perpetuate Obama-era policies", another former official told TheDCNF.

Trump also says McMaster "is a good man and very pro-Israel". Cohen-Watnick was involved in providing documents related to the incidental surveillance of members of Trump's transition team to House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes in March.

McMaster is now involved in a power struggle within the Trump administration, facing off against the far-right wing headed by senior adviser Steve Bannon, who is attempting to bring about McMaster's resignation.

"At the time, I and other reporters were led to believe that this was the decision of rogue anti-Israel officers at the United States consulate in Jerusalem". Politico recently reported Kelly told McMaster he hoped he would stay on at the White House and encouraged him to move forward with any staffing changes he saw fit.

In classified briefings, Trump would frequently flit between subjects.

The firing of the NSC's director for strategy planning, Richard Higgins, on July 21, meanwhile, was linked to a conspiratorial memo he'd sent about radical Islam rather than his ties to Bannon or NSC aide Sebastian Gorka, an NSC aide said. But for now, at least, the campaign has not been able to convince Trump that he should get rid of McMaster, nor has it convinced Kushner, who was a staunch ally of the latest official McMaster pushed out of the NSC: senior director for intelligence Ezra Cohen-Watnick. But McMaster has faced accusations he is anti-Israel due to his support of the Iran nuclear deal and reports that he refers to Israel as "the occupying power".
