Venezuelan President Repurposes 'Despacito' Ahead Of Sunday Vote

The song is now one of the most popular on YouTube and last month, it reached two billion views. "Despacito!" go the new lyrics.

"My music is for all those who want to listen to it and enjoy it, not to be used as propaganda that tries to manipulate the will of a people who are crying out for their freedom", he added on the social media site.

Puerto Rican stars Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee have branded it an offence and called on Maduro for using reworked version of the song to promote a controversial vote he is organising.

The original version by the Puerto Rican artists Fonsi and Daddy Yankee was already a Latin-market hit; Bieber's remix gave it an global boost and beat the record he'd previously set with 2015's "Sorry", which logged 4.38 billion plays.

Daddy Yankee echoed Fonsi's words in an Instagram post, drawing a red X through a photo of Maduro.

"That you illegally appropriate a song [Despacito] does not compare with the crimes you commit and have committed in Venezuela", he wrote.

Kenmore Smart appliances add Alexa support in Sears Amazon deal
The deal marks the broadest distribution of Kenmore products, outside of Sears branded stores and related online retail platforms. In fact, Kenmore itself says it was in almost one in three American homes in the early 2000s.

Daddy Yankee said Maduro's "dictatorial regime.is a joke for the entire world".

Despacito translates as "slowly", referring to the speed of the lead singer's seduction technique.

Nicolas Maduro, the power-hungry left-wing president of Venezuela, broadcast a parody of "Despacito" at a rally this week to drum up support for his proposed rewrite to the nation's constitution, which would effectively install him as dictator of the struggling Latin American nation.

It is now the third most viewed YouTube video with 2.7 billion views, behind See You Again by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth and Psy's Gangnam Style.

Millions of Venezuelans have been staging months of protests against Maduro, a former bus driver and union leader narrowly elected to replace the late Hugo Chavez in 2013.

Critics say he is trying to cement a dictatorship.
