Muppets Studio's has confirmed with ABC News that Matt Vogel is taking over voicing the iconic character from Whitmire starting with the newest edition "Muppets Thought of the Week", a weekly web video that premieres across the Muppets' social media channels.

Muppet fan site Tough Pigs was the first to report the news that Whitmire would be leaving the series.

Alongside Kermit, Whitmire provided the voices for Rizzo the Rat, lab sidekick Beaker, crotechty critic Statler, as well as "Sesame Street"'s Ernie (of Bert and Ernie) and more.

Israel Wants US, Not Russia, to Control Deescalation Zones in Syria
The Trump administration has grappled with a strategy on how to deal with Syria once Islamic State is pushed out of its territory. Jordan and Israel are also part of the deal, the Associated Press reports , quoting an unnamed USA official.

Muppets performer Matt Vogel will take over from Whitmire. His first footage will be featured in a Muppets Thought of the Week video. He also voiced several characters in popular children's TV show "Fraggle Rock" from 1983 to 1987, including Flange Doozer, Sprocket and Wembley Fraggle.

Folks at Touch Pigs said they have many questions, primarily the reasons behind Steve's departure. According to a tweet, Steve performed for Jane Henson at an airport coffee shop.

Representatives for Disney, which owns Muppets Studio, didn't immediately return a request for comment Tuesday about the motivation behind the move.

Vogel joined Sesame Street in 1996 and voiced Kermit's evil doppelganger Constantine in the 2014 Muppets Most Wanted film.
