Knife attack in Hamburg supermarket leaves one person dead

The attacker was detained by bystanders and arrested soon after the stabbing in the city of Hamburg in northern Germany, police said via Twitter. The attack in Germany is suspected to have resulted in one death.

The man was slightly injured. The person who was killed was described by police as a customer.

In a press statement, a police spokesperson said that the suspect had entered the supermarket and suddenly began stabbing customers before fleeing the building.

Two eyewitnesses to the attack said the man shouted "Allahu Akbar" but police said they were unable to confirm the reports.

She said all this had happened despite she agreeing to a discussion on the issue of alleged atrocities against Dalits and Muslims. The members raised slogans in the Well of the House during Zero Hour and tore and threw papers towards the Speaker's chair.

One attacker has been arrested, but police are looking for a second man, Bild reported. "First reports about a possible robbery can not be confirmed so far", he said.

The police said they did not yet know the reason behind the attack or have any more precise information on the number of people injured.

A video on its website showed a helicopter landed outside the supermarket with armed police in body armor patrolling the neighborhood.
