KFC China releasing Colonel-themed smartphone

KFC China releasing Colonel-themed smartphone

KFC opened its first restaurant in China a short distance from the Tiananmen Square in Beijing in November 1987.

But you'll wanna hurry, as KFC and Huawei are only making 5,000 of these things.

KFC Huawei 7 Plus phones are now available for a limited time on the Chinese online retail site Tmall for 1099 Chinese yuan, or just under $162.

The chicken-lover's dream piece of tech is a collaboration with Chinese manufacturer Huawei, with both the chicken chain's logo and Huawei's logo adorning the bright red casing of the limited edition Huawei 7 Plus. There are around 4,000 KFC restaurants in the country.

Shenzhen telecommunications company Huawei was also founded in 1987. KFC launched an online store today called KFC Ltd.

There aren't a lot of details available on the phone's specifications, though the YouTube description indicates that it's a customized take on the Huawei 7 Plus, and according to Kotaku, there will be the option of either 16GB or 32GB storage capacity.

The "KFC Phone" is a special version of Huawei's Chang Enjoy 7 smartphone limited to just 5,000 retail units, and features more than a few KFC-styled changes.

We also know that it will come bundled with KFC's mobile app, which will be pre-loaded with 100,000 "K Dollars" - a virtual currency used on the Chinese KFC app. Users will also get access to K-Music, which is a new jukebox function available on the KFC app. The brand, which is best known for its innovative smart phones, ranked third in market share of the global smartphone market in the last quarter of 2016.
