2017 marks Qatar Airways' fourth win for Airline of the Year, an honor previously bestowed in 2011, 2012 and 2015.

Skytrax World Airline Awards are a global benchmark of airline excellence, and described as "the Oscars of the aviation industry".

The success of the commercial falls during the same week as this year's Paris Air Show, where QA revealed the first aircraft retrofitted with its new, award-winning Business Class concept, Qsuite, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to gathered crowds of industry representatives and global media.

There are no USA companies featured in the Top 20 of the survey's rankings, which cover more than 325 airlines and are a powerful marketing tool to attract more high-spending business or leisure travelers. The survey for the award was conducted among 19.87 million airline passengers from 105 countries between August 2016 and May 2017 to determine the winners.

The airline now has an unmatched record, widening the gap with other airlines as it was crowned the World's Best Low-Cost Airline for the ninth year in a row.

The Boeing 787s are equipped with eight private First Suites in a unique curved aisle setting, an airline industry first, with a 10 per cent increase in personal space.

Besides the recognition to Thailand's national carrier, another Thai airline - Bangkok Airways - received the award for "world's best regional airline".
