Brooke Henderson stumbles late, keeps Meijer LPGA lead

Canadian Brooke Henderson tamed strong winds to break out of a logjam and surge to a two-stroke victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Henderson has a solid lead over South Korean Hur Mi-Jung (66), Spaniard Carlota Ciganda (64) and Lexi Thompson of the USA in the US$2 million (RM8.55 million) LPGA Tour event.

Shin reeled off five birdies in a row to move one behind Thompson.

"I played really steady golf".

The 19-year-old could have had a bigger lead but she ended her round with back-to-back bogeys to reach a 12-under 130 total, setting the tournament's 36-hole scoring record. "And going into the back nine, I just wanted to give myself as many chances as I could".

Hur kept bogeys off her scorecard Friday as she fired her second straight five-under 66. "I feel comfortable. I played here past year and I'm excited for the weekend".

"This is definitely a great layout for my game", she said.

Following the incident, the so-called Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the bombings. Baluchistan province is home to a Sunni population who form a minority in majority Shia Iran.

Moriya, the sister of world No. 1 Ariya Jutanugarn, is alone in fifth at nine-under 133, three shots back of Henderson.

"Obviously I saw (Henderson) playing good, and when she's on, it's hard to beat her but I'm excited to keep fighting", said Ciganda, a two-time LPGA victor.

"On a day like today when you don't know if you're going to have further rain delays or how the course is playing, I think it was really important to hit the fairways and I think that I was doing pretty well out there", Ko said.

Her successor, Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn, is eight off the pace. I was hitting the ball really well and some putts were dropping, which is kind of a change from the last few weeks.

New Zealand's Lydia Ko is in a share of 7th position and four shots from Thompson's lead her round highlighted by a pitch and run from just short of the green for eagle at the 11th.

Kim had her second 70 to make the cut on the number.
