McNeil paid a criminal fine of $20 million and forfeited $5 million to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Medications that were recalled included Tylenol, Tylenol for children and infants, Motrin, Benadryl, St. Joseph aspirin, Rolaids and Zyrtec, according to the complaint IL filed against the company. The settlement resolves allegations that McNeil unlawfully promoted its over-the-counter drugs as meeting federal standards for manufacturing. McNeil will be required to quickly inform state attorneys general when recalled medications are shipped into their state. McNeil-PPC did not admit to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

The complaint filed today alleges that McNeil violated Idaho's consumer protection laws by (1) misrepresenting the cGMP compliance and the quality of its over-the-counter drugs, and (2) representing to consumers that these drugs had sponsorship, approval, characteristics, ingredients, uses, benefits, quantities, or qualities they did not actually have. All of the drugs recalled, with lot numbers, are listed in the document.
