How to See the Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower This Weekend

"Beause the Water Jar is on the celestial equator - an imaginary great circle directly above the Earth's equator - the radiant of the Eta Aquarid shower rises due east as seen from all over the world". It is one of the two meteor showers created by debris from Halley's Comet. Tonight there will be up to 50 meteors going by in an hour.

Look for the constellation Aquarius-the meteors are thought to stem from Eta Aquarii, one of its brightest stars, which is called the "radiant".

Officials at Griffith Observatory say the flash, which first shone blue then faded to white, may have come off the constellation Aquarius. In the Northern hemisphere the meteors can often be seen just above the horizon. The Eta Aquariids are a Class 1 major meteor shower. You won't even need a telescope as the meteors are expected to light up the sky and can easily be seen with the naked eye. Find a place far away from large light sources, especially cities.

Across the Northern Hemisphere, rates will be low but any meteors you witness will be memorable as they will be very long and long lasting.

And just remember - it takes 15 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness, so plan your timings carefully!

We believe that the voice we're hearing is Maximus , who is played by Iwan Rheon. "You're talking about treason". How Black Bolt will handle his brother going off the rails should be interesting.

The Eta Aquariid meteor shower will peak this week on May 5 and 6.

"Later sunrise means more dark time to watch meteors".

If you're lucky and the light conditions are right, you should be able to spot up to 30 shooting stars in an hour.

While one of the most well-known meteor showers - The Perseids - will be occurring in August, you do not have to wait that long to admire the phenomenon yourself.

For most observers, the eta Aquariids are only visible during the last couple of hours before the start of morning twilight. "That's why the tropics and southern temperate latitudes tend to see more Eta Aquarid meteors than we do at mid-northern latitudes".
