Trump to Sign Executive Order Reviewing Highly Skilled H-1B Visa Program

"We see Mr. Trump's "Hire American" initiative likely driving up the cost to make steel in the USA, a likely headwind for domestic mills", Johnson said Tuesday in a note to investors.

"There is an economic argument for restricting visas in order to promote American job seekers over immigrants but regardless, this move by President Trump is clearly part of his racist "America-First" ideology", said Myles Hoeing, who is running from Congress as a Green Party candidate from Maryland's seventh district. In putting pen to paper on this matter, Trump is looking to bring to fruition his campaign promise to support domestic blue-collar workers and U.S. job creation.

Tom Gilding, a retired high school teacher who was among the protesters, said Trump's decision not to release his taxes shows a lack of transparency in his administration. "The H-1B program was created to fill gaps in America's workforce with highly-skilled foreign workers, but as we've seen in recent years, the program has been abused and exploited at the expense of American workers and most- qualified foreign workers", he said.

Mr Trump will direct the departments of State, Justice, Homeland Security and Labour to propose reforms to the scheme, which allows American employers to bring foreign workers to fill USA jobs.

But the White House said the programme is undercutting American workers by bringing in cheaper labour and that some tech companies are using it to hire large numbers of workers and drive down wages.

Wolf said he thinks the H-1B program is good for America, as long as the objective continues to be improving the American economy.

In the construction industry, there also are concerns over "too strict a definition of what constitutes USA -made steel products", said Kenneth Simonson, chief economist of the Associated General Contractors of America. "We also welcome efforts to root out abuse, better enforce the existing rules, and increase the salary requirements", ITIF President Robert D Atkinson said.

What's more, the executive orders will also require federal agencies to review and minimise the use of waivers and exceptions in worldwide trade agreements.

Grayson Allen To Return To Duke For Senior Season
That nonconference finale in Greensboro, N.C., on December 21 became the third time Allen tripped an opponent that calendar year. The shooting guard announced Tuesday he will bypass the NBA draft and return to college basketball for his senior season.

The trip brought Trump to the congressional district of House Speaker Paul Ryan, but Ryan was out of the country on a congressional trip.

During his remarks, Trump weighed in on another economic issue, promising to find a solution to a trade dispute with Canada that has left dairy farmers in Wisconsin and NY without a market they had for a product called ultra-filtered milk, a protein liquid concentrate used to make cheese.

Canada changed its policy on pricing domestic milk to cover more dairy ingredients, leading to lower prices for Canadian products including ultra-filtered milk that compete with the USA product.

Since the early days of Trump's campaign, he has been vocal about his stance on the visa program, constantly saying that it's a threat to the American labor force.

"Buy American" provisions already exist in US law but policing them has been hard because of waivers granted to foreign companies that undercut their USA counterparts on pricing. The Chamber of Commerce added that it would be a "mistake to close the door on high-skilled workers" who can contribute to the growth and expansion of American businesses and make the USA more competitive around the world.

They included a promise to pursue more investigations of fraud and abuses and a warning to employers applying for the visas not to discriminate against USA workers. Many Trump products are produced overseas, and he has hired foreign workers at his properties including at Mar-a-Lago, his club in Palm Beach, Fla., which has become his frequent base of operations on weekends.

Snap-on makes hand and power tools, diagnostics software, information and management systems and shop equipment for use in agriculture, the military and aviation. So if enforced improperly, it could cause supply problems in a US market in which up to 25 percent of steel was imported in the first quarter of this year. He called it "very depressing".
