Lawyer: United will save evidence in dragged passenger case

Last week (April 9), the video of a man on board a United Airlines flight being forcibly removed from his seat by airport security, made worldwide headlines.

Attorney Thomas Demetrio said Dr Dao would "probably" sue.

One week after becoming the subject of furious worldwide scrutiny and condemnation, following the video of Dr. David Dao being forcibly dragged out of a United plane, the airline has reportedly changed its policies in order to avoid such a grisly scene from ever occurring again.

CEO Oscar Munoz has apologized publicly to Dao, whose lawyer on Thursday said he'd sustained a broken nose and concussion and would likely bring a lawsuit against United.

Videos from witnesses that filmed Dao showed him bloodied and in distress after security forcibly pulled him from his seat and dragged him by his arms down the aisle.

An Illinois lawmaker on Monday introduced a bill to ban the forcible removal of travelers from flights by state or local government employees after a United Airlines passenger was dragged from an aircraft last week.

A city spokesman didn't immediately return a message. She said the change was meant to ensure that episodes like what happened last week "never happen again".

United, facing fierce criticism after videos of the incident went viral, said it is reviewing its policies around oversold flights.

The passenger who was roughed up, Dr. David Dao, is weighing legal action against United, his attorney said this week.

The company has also raised compensation that supervisors on duty can offer to displaced passengers from US$1,350 to US$10,000.

The couple from Salt Lake City, Utah, say they boarded the plane to find another passenger asleep in their seats.

Has United Airlines implemented any policy changes as a result of this incident?

Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans told the committee that the officers had the authority to board the flight but that what happened on the plane is being investigated.
