Netanyahu: our raids targeted advanced weapons of Hezbollah in Syria

Earlier, a spokesperson of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Israeli military jets were targeted by anti-aircraft missiles after they struck several targets in Syria.

Israeli media reported Friday morning that the strikes were aimed at arms convoys in Syria's Homs District, not far from Palmyra, a formerly Islamic State group-held city retaken earlier this month by Syrian regime forces with backing from Russian Federation. The group is sworn to Israel's destruction, and fired thousands of rockets into Israel during a monthlong war in 2006.

On Friday, just one day after the Israeli Ambassador to Russia Gary Koren presented his credentials to President Putin, he was summoned for clarifications over the strikes.

The two countries established coordination a year ago to avoid conflicts in Syrian airspace, ostensibly to allow both countries to operate freely. "Every time we identify a transfer like this, we will work to prevent the transfer of game-changing weapons".

"The Syrians must understand that they are held responsible for these arms transfers to Hezbollah and that if they continue to allow them then we will do what we have to do".

Lava flow mixed with steam had caused a huge explosion, which pelted the group with boiling rocks and steam, she said . Mt Etna has been active for the past two days, creating a visual spectacle as it spews lava and ash into the air.

Israeli officials have warned of the possibility Hezbollah and Iran could attempt to set up a base to attack Israel near the border with the Israeli Golan Heights.

"We are a sovereign country that acts to protect our security interests". It rarely comments on such operations and the military statement detailing the raid and comments confirming the operation by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were highly unusual. The aircraft were deployed on a mission to destroy a weapons convoy destined for the Lebanese Hizbollah group, which is backed by Iran and fights alongside Syrian government forces.

He added, "I am telling militants fighting within the ranks of the enemies that you are only serving Israel, and shedding the blood of innocent people".

Although Israel has operated with relative immunity in Syria, Russian-supplied anti-aircraft missile systems - including most recently S300 launchers have threatened to complicate Israel's freedom of action.

The secretary general of Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance movement, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, says Western powers are drawing on Takfiri terrorists in order to carry out their schemes in conflict-ridden Syria.
