Live Location Sharing Comes To Facebook Messenger

Live Location Sharing Comes To Facebook Messenger

Live Location is Facebook's second big attempt at maps in Messenger after its first one blew up into a privacy scandal and was scrapped in 2015.

"You can change your mind and stop sharing at any time - it's entirely up to you".

Other apps such as Life360 and SafeTrek let you track the location of friends and family members too.

Your smartphone has the capacity to reveal where you are at any given moment.

Previously, people could share their whereabouts with Google's old Latitude service, as well as its fated Google+ social network. That could be a little bit creepy, but it's opt-in, so you'd only turn it on if you wanted to make yourself easier to find. Facebook also shows you an estimate of how long it would take you to meet your friends if going by vehicle - that ETA is shared with others, as well.

The senators, all Democrats, urged David Ogrean to resolve the matter and ensure the team receives "equitable resources". The MLBPA encouraged all female hockey players to stand united behind their national team colleagues.

Messenger also still lets users share a specific static location without giving continuous updates - that's good if you're trying to meet somewhere specific but don't need your contacts to be tracking your every move. You'll see a map of your current location, and tapping the blue bar will share your location for the next 60 minutes.

Facebook has tried this kind of thing before. "You can share your Live Location with a group of friends in Messenger or just with one person - it's up to you!" This didn't go down well, so Facebook canned the capability.

This post was syndicated from BusinessDay: News you can trust. Here are 25 things Facebook knows about. The feature is available globally and on both iOS and Android. Thankfully, Facebook is eager to help us out with this sort of predicament, and it is enlisting Messenger to aid in the effort. Do you like the idea of Live Location?

The update is remarkably similar to location sharing feature introduced by Google last week. The tool was disabled though after Facebook claimed the developer scraped data in a way that violated its user agreement.
