Travis Wood Agrees To Deal With Royals

According to multiple reports, former Chicago Cubs pitcher Travis Wood has agreed to a two-year deal with the Kansas City Royals.

This move is likely the last addition Kansas City makes prior to opening day. But signing Wood gives them some flexibility; his bullpen history means he could provide important relief innings. Coming off a World Series title with the Chicago Cubs, Wood hopes to earn a starting slot in a rotation shaken by the death of Yordano Ventura in a auto accident.

Wood had a memorable postseason for the 2016 World Champions, making appearances in nine playoff games, going 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA (2 ER in 6.1 IP) with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The government of Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski was pressuring the United States to change its mind, the source said. But his former vice president, David Waisman - himself a prominent member of Peru's Jewish community - said that was untrue.

Just a week ago, Royals general manager Dayton Moore sat deep within Kauffman Stadium and admitted that he was probably finished building his starting rotation ahead of spring training. "He really wanted a multi-year opportunity".

A 2013 National League All-Star, Wood has spent the last five seasons with the Cubs, after coming to Chicago in a trade with Cincinnati in 2011. In his 133 career starts, the left-hander is 35-50 with a 4.19 ERA.

Wood had a 2.95 ERA out of the bullpen previous year, and tossed 6 1/3 innings of relief during the Cubs' championship run. As a reliever, he's fared better with an 8-2 record and 2.83 ERA.
