Republicans Push Through Pruitt Nomination While Democrats Boycott

In addition to Pruitt, Kaine has announced his opposition to the nominations of Jeff Sessions, Tom Price, Betsy DeVos, Ben Carson and Mick Mulvaney and has voted against Rex Tillerson. The Democrats on the committee boycotted the vote.

Suspending these rules allows the committee to approve a resolution without the required minimum of two minority party members and allows the chairman to amend these rules without the required minimum number of assembly members. John Barrasso (R-WY), the chair of the committee, was able to proceed without Democrats.

Despite Congressional Republicans' constant, shrill rancor during the Obama administration-they threatened for years, for example, to force a United States government default, over policy disputes-Barrasso claimed Democrats' opposition brought Congress into "uncharted waters".

Democrats have opposed Priutt since President Donald Trump nominated him in December.

"I am disappointed Finance Committee Republicans broke committee rules to force through these two nominees who have not yet answered important questions about recently revealed ethics problems", said Sen.

Toomey pops left's bubble - will back Trump education nominee Betsy DeVos
In other words, Collins will vote to allow the Senate to debate DeVos, but she now says she will not vote for her to be confirmed. The wealthy Republican donor has been denounced by Democrats - and now two Republicans - who have slammed her credentials.

"The committee Democrats are deeply concerned about the lack of thoroughness of Mr. Pruitt's responses to our questions for the record", Delaware Sen. The nominations will now head to the full Senate for final confirmation votes as early as next week. Pruitt also sued over the EPA's recent expansion of water bodies regulated under the Clean Water Act. "As we pointed out yesterday, elections have consequences, and a new president is entitled to put in place people who will advance his agenda, the agenda the people voted for when they elected him president".

For the second time in as many days, a Senate committee's GOP leadership has bypassed a boycott by Democrats to advance President Trump's Cabinet nominees.

Thomas R. Carper, the committee's ranking Democrat, wrote in a letter to Barrasso. Pruitt may not have answered senators' questions, but everything we do know makes it clear that he can't and won't do the job. "Who knows how many other communications there are between his web of political committees, dark money groups, and fossil fuel companies".

As AG, Pruitt was engaged in lawsuits against the EPA, including one over the EPA Waters of the USA rule.
