Aussies in NBA: Ben Simmons won't play this season

Things just got even worse for Sixers faithful as president Bryan Colangelo announced that Simmons will not play at all for the team in the 2016-17 season.

Colangelo told reporters that Simmons was "heartbroken" that he was being shut down for the season, according to ESPN. But there was always the outside chance that it didn't happen because there wasn't complete or full healing.

John Barchard of WIP Sports Radio reported Thursday that the CT scan showed there is still a fracture, but it was unclear whether it was the original injury or a new fracture.

"Unfortunately, Ben is going to sit out".

At one point, he was spraying obscene graffiti on homes and cars including a penis on a vehicle parked on the street. When officers arrived, the suspect was in the street and began shooting at the officers.

Simmons averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in his one season with LSU previous year. After being drafted third overall by Philadelphia in 2014, Joel Embiid missed all of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons with a foot injury before playing in his first regular-season game on October 26, 2016. "The good news is one day he'll put on a uniform", Colangelo said.

Simmons underwent surgery to fix a broken bone in his right foot in October.

Simmons' journey from LSU to the pros has been well documented, and the Sixers picking him first overall in the most recent draft is the fruit of Sam Hinkie's labor.

Colangelo also said star center Joel Embiid will miss at least four games because of a bruised left knee that has sidelined him for 11 of the past 12 games.
