Passengers leave the departure hall Thursday at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia where Kim Jong Nam was reportedly attacked and killed two days before.
Kim Jong Nam, 45, was preparing to fly to his home in Macau from Kuala Lumpur on Monday morning when he was attacked and poisoned by two women at Terminal 2 of the global airport, authorities said.
The suspect identified as Doan Thi Huong traveled to Vietnam and South Korea several times with the man on shopping and sightseeing excursions.
Kim Jong-nam, who was aged 45 or 46, had lived in exile for years and was estranged from his younger half-brother, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Malaysia's Chinese-language daily China Press reported on Saturday that the arrest was made on Friday evening in the capital.
The events leading up to his death are sketchy, but Selangor State Criminal Investigations Department Chief Fadzil Ahmat told Reuters Kim "felt like someone grabbed or held his face from behind".
Kim sought help at the airport's help desk, telling a receptionist there he felt dizzy.
"They said that they should conduct a post-mortem on him in order to clarify the cause of the death", the ambassador said. An ambulance was called and he was sent to the Putrajaya Hospital close by. He died while being taken to hospital.
